Closing out 2017 by Celebrating the Success of Project Secret Weapon
We couldn’t think of a better way to close out 2017 that with a huge celebration as we sent the final contribution over to Building Tomorrow.
Entering into the final two months of the year, we had quite a bit of ground left to cover. In fact, we were just over half way to our $30,000 goal. Yikes! We had just come off the super success of our Celebrate Today, Build Tomorrow party, and were exceptionally committed and determined to finish strong.
So, we scoured our home for toys, clothes, electronics, and other things to sell. Just ahead of the holidays, Lorrie had a brilliant idea and launched Crafting for a Purpose. She would finger knit beautiful neck scarves and we’d contribute all the proceeds to Project Secret Weapon. The cold temperatures certainly helped, and they were a huge hit!
And, we were so blessed by our many co-workers, friends, and family who joined us on this adventure and contributed generously. It was truly amazing to see. We especially want to thank my immediate Vreeman family, who decided to forgo exchanging Christmas gifts for the adults and instead all made donations to the project. Our family had committed to (at least) matching all outside donations and were determined to close the remaining gap by the end of the year. So, we got creative with our end of the year finances and geared up for one last contribution to send on New Years Eve.
So here we are at the start of 2018, celebrating an amazing journey this past year. We’re so proud of our boys and so thankful for everyone who helped make this dream a reality.

We’re looking ahead to see how this new school in Uganda will transform so many lives.
In phase II of the journey we’ll work with Building Tomorrow to be matched to a community that’s been selected for a school and start planning our trip to see it launched.
